Got an Itch?

Dust your prairie dog colony for those irritating, scary fleas. It’s easy! Once or twice per year during hot, summer months is adequate.

Three simple items are all you will need:

  • Disposable plastic gloves or work gloves.

  • Disposable allergy masks.

  • Shaker cans of Sevin Carbaryl Insecticide Dust. *

All of these supplies can usually be located at most hardware or garden stores.

Simply sprinkle an ample amount of the powder directly into each burrow entrance. Only apply into the holes and not around them. The fleas only live around the entrances, so this technique should eliminate them.

If you are planning to take good care of your prairie dog town on a regular basis, it may be more cost effective to buy a dust applicator and use larger bags of Sevin.

Now relax and feel good about the very nice thing you just did! You have prevented the possible spread of plague into your prairie dog colony and helped rid the ‘dogs’ and other burrow dwellers of annoying fleas.

* The only commercial, widely distributed substance that is safe for use on companion animals, and generally non-toxic.
