At a our prairie dog relocation for Hunter Douglas on June 17, 2007, visiting Prairie Dog Specialist, Pam, proudly displays the pup she has just toweled off. Pam flew in from NY to help with this relocation job. Nearly three years ago, it was Kathy and Becky who flew to NY, at Pam's request, to capture a prairie dog living loose on Fire Island. To Long Islanders, this wayward critter was affectionately dubbed "Phil" after the infamous Punxsutawney Phil. Once captured, it was quickly determined that Phil was actually "Philomena". Philly, as she is now known, survived 13 months alone on the beach, even surviving a harsh NY winter. During that time, she had traveled a mile from where she was first spotted. Instinct had been driving her west. |

Earth Day at Barr Lake State Park, April 22, 2007. Here we are on the Eagle Express along with park visitors for our first of two Prairie Dog Town tours. It was a beautiful day and a great time. Besides our visit with the prairie dogs, we were fortunate enough to also see both a Red-Tailed Hawk and a Great Horned Owl sitting with their nest of fledglings. |

These children came along with their parents on our second Earth Day tour. Here they peer down a burrow as they look for signs of nose prints. After a rain, prairie dogs arch their backs and vigorously pound their noses against their burrow walls. This helps reinforce the sides to prevent cave-ins and keep rain water out. |
