The ProcessA mild dishwashing liquid is mixed into a large water tank and hosed into prairie dog burrows. The soap bubbles rise in advance of the water causing their eyes to sting, and making the animals want to exit the burrow. A second person catches the dogs exiting (yes, with their bare hands!) and hands them off to a third person who towel dries them. Saline eye drops are applied to the eyes to clear away the soap, and they are placed into pet carriers filled with grass hay. The carriers are changed with each coterie so families are kept together and released together. Number of PeopleThree to four people are ideal for most sites. Volunteers are sometimes encouraged depending on the project. All anyone needs to work with us is a love for animals and a current tetanus shot. Tools and Supplies
